Games Development Skills / Project Management
Management of projects from conception to release in the context of simulated professional games development environments; in my experience I have undertaken many projects for assignments, taking on a plethora of responsibilities. I have learned and experienced the methodology-based workflow of such projects on multiple occasions, as well as picking up relevant skills relating to programming and design.
On this page...
I present a list of my capabilities relating to games/software projects, followed by the next section which points to some university modules which helped me to gain these capabilities.
I am able to...
Work collaboratively in a team to build prototypes including planning, scheduling and managing the project to tight deadlines.
Take personal responsibility for completion of assigned tasks to strict deadlines and be able to communicate ideas to others in a professional manner.
Present work in both written and verbal formats (i.e. dissertation report, presentation of games projects both online and in-person)
Devise and document an original concept for a computer game including the entire games creation build-cycle from first concept to market release.
Use appropriate tools for managing a game development build cycle and understand the impact of legal, moral and ethical issues, and the importance of corporate governance.
Construct, document and execute a quality assurance testing plan for a game.
Develop and document a detailed market release strategy using appropriate user-interface and community management techniques.
Describe the benefits and limitations of common software development life cycle methodologies and demonstrate a procedural understanding of a specific methodology
Identify and evaluate the impact of commercial and economic factors on a given business case
Identify project stakeholders, elicit and evaluate requirements, processes and information and to document them using appropriate UML tools.
Apply usability evaluations using best practice methods and analyse results to create subsequent design recommendations.
Design user interfaces incorporating specific usability requirements and UX design principles and build prototypes of the user interface, using specified prototyping tools.
Key Modules Where These Objectives Were Reached
KEY MODULE
Game and Media Creation Processes
-
Worked in a team to develop and publish a prototype for a mobile game to Google Play, where I was responsible for leading the project [MORE DETAILS]
-
Worked in a team to develop a prototype for a narrative driven game, where I acted as the project leader [MORE DETAILS]
-
Have presented both of the projects through MS Teams, with the first presentation being to an industry professional in addition to our lecturer
KEY MODULE
Individual Project
-
Worked independently to manage my own final year project, based on my own ideas and abilities, of which the progress would be regularly reported to the supervisor, with the final artefacts including a dissertation as well as a beta-stage game project [MORE DETAILS]
KEY MODULE
Requirements Analysis and Design
-
Gained in depth understanding of the early analysis and design stages of the software development lifecycle.
-
Worked in a team under the "producer" role to develop two software design projects, with the second including a prototype of the application. These projects were also presented in class.
-
Projects were framed in a economic, commercial and business context which provided valuable exposure to professional industry practices in a dynamic and changing environment
