In a time where mainline PC and console games are mostly 3D, 2D games manage to dominate mobile game catalogues- they simply match the form factor. From 'difficult challenge' games such as Geometry Dash, to competetive games where you can play against friends, such as 8 Ball Pool; there are even games based on classics like Candy Crush and Farm Hero Saga. Needless to say, there is no shortage of entertaining 2D games on the market and the range is massive!
This week, we had a meeting and discussed these game ideas and decided on a tower defence game- we felt that this type of game would be very easy to scale and make many levels for. I also ended the meeting by setting all of us tasks: the artist will familiarise themselves with what assets can be in this type of game, our programmer will follow the guide I've put on our Trello board to set up Unity and clone the repository. I will be producing a draft describing the design elements of our game, where I will describe the core game loop, level structure, scalability and how a game like this can be monetised.
UPDATE 11/11/2020 - On meeting the following week, we decided to change our idea on recommendation from our lecturer. Many others were going for the tower defence genre, so we felt it was better to do something different.
